I’m at work so I’ll make this quick. I read this interview yesterday (while at work
)and thought I’d share. Douglas Blackmon is the Atlanta bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal and he has a new book out about the period of neo-slavery in the United States, otherwise known as Jim Crow. The Jim Crow era (Jim Crow was actually a comedian in the antebellum south known for his deragatory portrayals of African Americans) was about much more than just name calling and “whites only” signs. I knew a little about forced labor and it’s relationship to the old black codes but was surprised at how little. Take a look. I’m going to get this book today (after work
)
peace
